Something New

So this is Post #1. I thought maybe I'd take my jewelry out of the little sunroom I call my 'art space' and onto the internet. I spend so much time in that room designing and creating new pieces I sometimes forget that I also need to make it available...you know...in case someone wishes to wear one. So here it is...the space I have created to post progress and new ideas and frustrations and jewelry I am either proud of or end up sending back to the drawing board. So before I get to the daily grind of what I've been up to...a little about me first:

Aside from being a middle-aged woman who feels she has been standing at a cross road for the last 20 years (a whole other story) I am a mother, a (young haha) grandmother, an office guru and overall caretaker of many. I keep my sanity and balance through music and jewelry making.

I am pretty much as all over the board musically as I am artistically. I love Dylan like I love silver, I worship Morrison like I worship beautiful glass beads. My ears tingle when I hear Patty Griffin like my fingertips tingle when I receive a new package of jewelry supplies. Recently I have rediscovered my passion for the music of the 'High Priestess of Soul' Nina Simone around the same time I found a passion for working with antique brass. Turns out I have a 'vintage' soul!

So you will notice that quite a bit of my newer pieces are created using oxidized brass components that are matched with sparkling crystals to maintain an interesting balance. Just know that most of these pieces were designed and created at night, when the house is still, and with Nina or Ella or Dinah crooning in the background. Oh yeah...and an occasional glass of red at my side.
